Pit Bull Myths:Debunked

 

Myths-

  • Pit bulls have locking jaws-Pit bulls are scientificly proven to be no different functionally than any other breed. There is no evidence of any kind of locking mechanism.(Dr. I Lerh Brisbin of the university of Georgia)

  • Pit Bulls have more bite presure per sqaure inch (PSI) than any other breed- This is absolutely false.  In a study by Dr. Brady Barr of National Geographic comparing a pit bull, a rottweiller, and a German Shepherd, the pit bull had the lowest PSI of the three.

  • Pit bulls turn on their owners - dogs do not perform behaviors "just becuase" there is always reasons for behavior. Aggression can be due to improper handling, lack of socialization, or training, misreading behavior, etc.  This is true of all dogs, not just pit bulls.

  • The only thing pit bulls are good for is fighting - the pit bull is one of the most versatile canines capable of excelling at nearly any task: obedience trailing, showing, weight pull, agility, and even tasks such as herding trials, search and rescue, police and armed services work.

  • Pit bulls cannot get along with other animals - pit bulls get along well with other animals like any other socialized dog.

  • Pit bulls are unpredictable around children - pit bulls have a long history as childrens companions and "nanny" dogs.  When properly raised they are the perfect breed to tolerate the rough play that kids can dish out.  Pit bulls tend to be drawn to the joyful optimism of children
