About us

Hope 4 Pits is a non-profit organization that was started September 2014, dedicated to the education of the public on pit bulls. As the most commonly misunderstood breed of dog, we feel it is our duty to represent them, and fight against breed specific legislation (BLS). The way we spread our message is by educating people on the breed. Below are some base facts to get you started and help you start to fight our fight too.

History-

  • In 19th century england pit bulls were called "nanny dogs" because they would "babysit" the children. Pits were perfect for this job because they were gentle and caring with kids.

  • When they were brought to America they had the same job, until the 1980's when dogfighting came back in to fashion.

  • Pits were the ideal dog of choice to take adavntage of because they had strong bodies and jaws.

  • Gangs and drug dealers also used them as guard dogs

Truth-

  • As nanny dogs pit bulls were not bred to be aggressive. Dog fighter spent countless hours and dollars training the dogs to fight.

  • Many pits up for adoption today come from dogfighting busts, but 90% of the them are not aggressive after some treatment and care.

In the 70's they blamed the Dobermans. In the 80's they blamed the German Shepherds. In the 90's they blamed the Rottweilers. Now they blame the Pit Bulls. When will they blame the humans?- Ceasar Millan
